Liberty of Duchy of Lancaster and Dereham Coroner's District (COR 1)

The Coroner to the Liberty of the Duchy of Lancaster was based in East Dereham.

However, the Liberty included about 250 parishes scattered throughout Norfolk, predominantly in the Hundreds of North Norfolk. These include:

  • Aylsham
  • The Burnhams
  • Cromer
  • Fakenham
  • Holt
  • Hunstanton
  • Reepham
  • Sheringham
  • North Walsham
  • Wells-next-the-Sea 

Other parishes within the Liberty included:

  • Castle Acre
  • Haddiscoe
  • Methwold
  • Sprowston
  • Taverham
  • Tilney All Saints
  • Watton

East Dereham itself was within the Norwich County Coroner's District.

In 1935 the Dereham Coroner's District came into effect, following the 1926 Act of Parliament which abolished the appointment of Duchy Coroners.

Norwich County Coroner's District (COR 2)

The Norwich City Coroner's District and the Norwich County Coroner's District were amalgamated to form the Norwich Coroner's District on 1 October 1978. 

From August 1977 to September 1978 the Norwich City Coroner, acting as interim Coroner for Norfolk County Coroner's District, dealt with cases referred to both the Norwich City District and to the Norfolk County District. Records include:

  • Case papers (includes depositions, post mortem reports and photographs) (COR 2/2)
  • Miscellaneous papers (includes general correspondence and expense papers) (COR 2/3)

Norwich City Coroner's District (COR 3)

The Norwich City Coroner's District and the Norwich County Coroner's District were amalgamated to form the Norwich Coroner's District on 1 October 1978.
