Key Stage 5

Study sessions

We provide study sessions for AS/A2 Level students. These provide an opportunity to handle and interpret a selection of original documents and explore a local angle on national or world history.

Each session starts with an introduction to the NRO and how to carry out research, using our online catalogue and the searchroom.

Next is a tour of the strongrooms where the documents are kept and the conservation studio where documents are repaired.

Here you can learn more about the work of the organisation and ask questions about working with archive collections.

Finally, you have some document handling training before exploring a range of documents on a relevant topic or topics.

Documents included in this session need to be arranged in advance and can be suggested by the students themselves, their teacher or our staff.

The aim of the sessions is to give the students the confidence to visit the NRO to carry out any further research.

Cost

Study sessions are free of charge for non-fee paying schools. We charge £120 for a two-hour session for fee-paying schools.
